Member Benefits
For people who enjoy industrial relations, being a part of the society is a great networking opportunity which can build valuable relationships with likeminded practitioners and where you can meet others who you would not normally have the opportunity to. Many of the society’s events feature influential and valuable members of the business, government and education community. Examples include members representing unions throughout NSW, local and regional councils and business, as well as educational institutions and current and former members of the Fair Work Commission and The Industrial Relations Commission of NSW. The Newcastle Branch is committed to providing high quality events with well known speakers in the IR profession. Previous speakers include the President of the Fair Work Commission, Justice Adam Hatcher; Deputy President Tony Saunders of the Fair Work Commission; The Honourable Sophie Cotsis MP, Minister for Industrial Relations and Minister for Work Health and Safety; Chief Commissioner Nichola Constant of the NSW Industrial Relations Commission; Commissioner Damian Sloan of the NSW Industrial Relations Commission; and Rabia Siddique, Human Rights Lawyer.
Along with invitations to our events, membership also entitles you to receive the Journal of Industrial Relations. This Journal is published throughout the year and contains a wide variety of articles on many aspects of Industrial Relations. Linked with the NSW Branch and the National Society Australian Labour and Employment Relations of Australia (ALERA), membership is transferable between the state organisations, although member benefit differ. ALERA hosts a national convention, which rotates between the capital cities and each state/territory organisations also hold annual conferences. Membership Levels:
