Kate Eastman, SC


Kate has over 30 years' experience in dispute resolution and advocacy in a wide range of employment disputes, all aspects of sexual harassment, discrimination and vilification law, public, education and health law. She is a recognised expert in human right law, internationally and in Australia. 

She appears in the High Court, Federal Court, Federal Circuit Court, Fair Work Commission, Industrial Relations Commission and State/Territory tribunals and appeals in matters arising under the Fair Work Act and discrimination laws. 

In 2021 she was made a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to the law, to human rights and to professional organisations. 

In 2023 Kate was appointed as a Commissioner of the NSW Law Reform Commission for a three year term.

In 1908, unions representing retail workers in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and South Australia joined together to become the Shop Assistants, and Warehouse Employees Federation.  Over time, State unions in Tasmania, Newcastle and Western Australia became part of the national union.  In 1972 the union changed its name to the Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees’ Association.
