Careers in Industrial Relations – a panel event for students and professionals

Interested in a career in industrial relations? Join us for an engaging panel discussion on industrial relations careers!

Hear from experienced industrial relations practitioners, including representatives from the Industrial Relations Commission of NSW, Deloitte and the Timber, Furnishing and Textiles Union. Panellists will reflect on their careers and share tips on building the skills needed to succeed in industrial relations. Audience members will have the chance to ask questions and meet the panellists. Light refreshments will be provided.

This careers event is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students from any university and early career professionals interested in working in industrial relations. 

This careers event will be followed by the annual Kingsley Laffer Memorial Lecture, featuring Ming Long, at 6pm at the University of Sydney. Commissioner Janine Webster

Commissioner Janine Webster has been serving on the Industrial Relations Commission of New South Wales since her appointment in 2018. Prior to this, she was the Chief Counsel and Executive Director at the Fair Work Ombudsman, where she played a pivotal role in shaping fairer Australian workplaces. Before joining the Fair Work Ombudsman, Commissioner Webster was a barrister, specialising in employment and industrial relations law.

Leah Brown

Leah is a Partner in Deloitte’s Workplace Integrity practice. Leah has over 20 years’ experience in industrial relations roles in professional and financial services, transport and logistics, employer associations, and government. She has extensive experience in payroll and workplace compliance, industrial relations policy and strategy, enterprise bargaining, change and transformation, industrial dispute resolution and stakeholder engagement and communications. Leah is a proud alumni of the University of Sydney having graduated many years ago with a Bachelor of Economics (SocSci) and Masters of Labour Law and Relations.

Alison Rudman

Alison is the NSW Secretary of the Timber, Furnishing and Textiles Union. Alison has over 20 years' experience advocating for workers' rights across a range of industries. Alison is also undertaking her PhD, examining how unions use their power to regulate the fissured workplace.
